Tibet's most sacred temple, The Jokhang, sits in the center of Lhasa's barkhor, or city square. The Potala Palace, the former home of the Dali Lama, can be seen in the distance. His Holiness fled his home in 1959 and has not been able to return since.

Plaque Honoring Mallory & Irvine
Scrambling up a slide beside base camp, I came across this memorial for two of my idols, George Mallory & Andrew Irvine. Mallory was thought to be the first man to summit Mt. Everest, perishing with his partner Andrew Irvine in the process. Conrad Anker discovered Mallory's body pointed uphill in 1999.
