Yamdrok Lake is one of three holy lakes in Tibet.  On it's shore lies the Samye Monastery, the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet.

Tibet's most sacred temple, The Jokhang, sits in the center of Lhasa's barkhor, or city square.  The Potala Palace, the former home of the Dali Lama, can be seen in the distance.  His Holiness fled his home in 1959 and has not been able to return since.

In an effort to attract more mountaineers to the less popular Northern route of Mt. Everest, the Chinese government has built a highway that drives right up to base camp.  In 2007 the final 40km of road consisted of deep mud, river corssings and narrow ledges seen here.

Located eight kilometers from Mt. Everest's Northern base camp, Rongphu Monastery is the highest monastery in the world, sitting at 16,340 feet.  Once home to over five hundred Tibetan Buddhist monks and nuns, it is now occupied by only a handful of nuns.

The oldest monastery in Tibet, this is the site where Padmasambhava introduced Buddhism to Emperor Trisong Detsen and ultimately the rest of Tibet in 760.

Bambu Indah, a small eco resort in Ubud, Bali.  One can stay in 100 year old traditional wooden homes and dine on Indonesian dishes prepared from their organic garden.

This Bali Aga culture, of the original Balinese inhabitants, do not bury their dead.  Instead they are laid to decompose in small straw tents beneath a rare tree believed to mask the odor of decomposition.

The Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali is a sanctuary for these Crab-Eating Macaques.  Numbering over 600, their safety is apparent in their cavalier behavior with tourists.

Scrambling up a slide beside base camp, I came across this memorial for two of my idols, George Mallory & Andrew Irvine.  Mallory was thought to be the first man to summit Mt. Everest, perishing with his partner Andrew Irvine in the process. Conrad Anker discovered Mallory's body pointed uphill in 1999.
